Rosa Matta, lovingly known as Abuela, Dona Rosa and Tita, was a beacon of love, resilience, and inspiring humility for all who knew her. Born on August 28, 1935, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Rosa was an embodiment of strength and wisdom. Her life was a testament to the verse in Proverbs 31:28, "Her children arise and call her blessed." Rosa’s legacy is deeply rooted in her family and her faith, which guided her life and inspired those around her.
A homemaker by choice and a nurturer by nature, Rosa was most at home in Chicopee, Massachusetts, where she created a haven of love and warmth for her children and the many friends who were drawn to her unique motherly aura. Her hobbies of cooking, sewing, reading the Bible, and attending church were reflections of her loving and humble nature. Rosa's impact extended beyond her home, reaching the hearts of many in Holyoke and Springfield, Massachusetts, where she had previously lived. Her resilience was a beacon of light to those who knew her, and her ability to inspire others with her unwavering faith and love left a lasting impact.
Rosa is survived by her daughters Iris Matta and Ada Gonzalez, and her sons Salvador Matta, Raul Matta, and Margarita Matta. She is also survived by her daughter Carmen Matta, and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents Luis Melendez and Maria Miranda, and her children Aida Matta, Isaac Matta, Emilia Matta, Santos Matta, Jesus Matta, and Ediberto Matta.
