Minnie Ruth Housey (Burston) Obituary (1942

Springfield- On May 31, 2021, the age of 78, Minnie Ruth Housey gained eternal life and at the same time, the world lost a beloved daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She was blessed to leave this world surrounded by her family. She was born on November 5, 1942, in Morgan, Georgia, to the proud parents Earlest Burston and Leila B. (Wiggins) Burston. She moved to Springfield in 1950 at the age of 6 where she remained for her entire life. She attended Putnam High School. Minnie was a former cook, baker, seamstress, & hair stylist. She was also employed by Kimley Home Care and then went on to manage 3 restaurants: Mr. Fish & Family, Steak & Take and Seven Seas Seafood. She is predeceased by her parents (Earlest & Leila), her husband (Willie Housey, Jr.), and her son (Willie Anthony Housey). She is also predeceased by 4 sisters (Essie, Ethel Mae, Margaret and Gloria) and 5 brothers (John Lee, Willie Fred, Curley B., Malcom and John Will). She is survived by her beloved children (Retha, Robert, Sandra, Patrice, Kwame & Patricia), 7 grandchildren (Tramesa, Packy, Teresa, Robert, Jonathan, Joshua, and Taylor), 9 great grandchildren (Nastassja, London, Sydnee, Josiah, Asa, Jay, TJ, Jaxson, Amaia), 5 siblings (Geraldine, Marjorie, Nathaniel, Wilfred, and Kelly), and several nieces, nephews, a very close friend (Margaret Martin), as well as several other friends. She had a passion for music and dancing. In her downtime, she enjoyed roller-skating & bowling. In addition, she loved plants & caring for the elderly. She was most known for her love of numbers, ultimately known as our famous mathematician. If you were in need of advice pertaining to numbers, you could count on Minnie! She was kind-hearted and a big giver. She will be remembered for her elegance, poise, strength and for consistently striving & attaining for the Best in all that she did. Minnie will be remembered fondly by all who loved her. The joy and laughter she often expressed will forever remain in our hearts. Calling Hours will be on Thursday, June 10th, 2021, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at Puerta Del Cielo(r) Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, MA, followed by her burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts.
