With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Maria E. Penabert Martinez, who embarked on her heavenly journey on February 28, 2026. Born in the idyllic town of Aibonito, Puerto Rico, on September 2, 1951, Maria's life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and the joy of simple pleasures. Her spirit and heart remained firmly rooted in her birthplace, even as she made Springfield, Massachusetts, her home.

Maria's love for the land was evident in her work at the tobacco farms. Her hands, etched with the lines of hard work and determination, nurtured the earth and contributed to the flourishing of the fields. Industrious and unyielding, Maria was a steadfast lighthouse in the whirlwind of life, guiding those around her with her unwavering strength and enduring optimism. Her life was a vivid tapestry of perseverance, embroidered with the golden threads of love and the silver strands of kindness.

Maria was the cherished daughter of Julio Penabert and Carmen Martinez, who have predeceased her. Her spirit is carried forward by the love of her niece, Blanca Marrero, and she is lovingly remembered by friends and loved ones. She is reunited with her son, Efrain Berrios, in the realm beyond our own.

A visitation will be held at City Cremations, Inc., 130 Carew Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Maria will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery of Springfield Inc., 426 Bay Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, the same day at 2:30PM.
