Luz Zenaida Diaz Cardona, age 64, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with ongoing health issues. Born in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, Luz brought light, laughter, and love into the lives of all who knew her.
Luz was known for her vibrant personality and deep love for music and singing—often filling any room with joy through her voice and energy. She had a passion for travel, especially to Puerto Rico, Florida, and the Dominican Republic—places where she felt most alive and connected to her roots.
She had a heart as big as her smile—always willing to help others, whether they were family, friends, or strangers in need. A strong woman through and through, Luz was someone who stood up for those she loved and fought for those who couldn’t fight for themselves.
She is survived by her loving partner, Nelson Zapata, and her twelve children: Raquel Vasquez, Yeida Vasquez, Sheila Lopez-Cardona, Tamarri Lopez-Cardona, Lionel Vasquez, Joel Vasquez, Jason Cruz, Hector Lopez-Cardona, Dashua Lopez-Cardona, Lionel Lopez-Cardona, Steven Cardona, and Nelson Zapata Jr. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren—Charmaine, Jermaine, Cecil, Yaytza, Edison, Shaekquan, Michael Jr., Justin, Sonny, Joelyel, Jasmany, Jonnuel, Derick, Cassidy, Lioner, Brayan, Nasheily, and Jomar—each of whom she adored, as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
Luz was preceded in death by her parents, Rubencia Cardona and Manuel Diaz; her cherished nephew, Juan “Moncito”; and her beloved brothers, Benjamin “Kino” and Fredo.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
