Luis Santiago

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Luis "Wiche" Santiago, who entered into eternal rest on September 4th, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on October 8, 1933, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Luis led a life that was filled with love, laughter, and an abundance of compassion for others.

Luis was a spirited soul, always ready with a joke or a prank, and his laughter was truly infectious. A devoted Catholic, he regularly attended church and formerly served as an usher in New York. His faith was a guiding force in his life and shone brightly in his everyday actions. The verse from Matthew 5:16, "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven," embodied Luis's life perfectly. He spent years working tirelessly in hospital maintenance, but it was his post-retirement life, filled with games of dominos, baseball matches, and quality family time, that truly defined him.

Luis's love for his family was unparalleled. His wife, Margarita Santiago, was his rock, and their bond was a testament to their unwavering love. He was a proud father to Daisy Reyes (Javier), Yahira Santiago-Núñez (Claudia), Louis Santiago, and Edgar Santiago. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betsy Bonilla. Luis's legacy will continue through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, and his nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.

Luis was predeceased by his parents, Ángel Santiago and Martina Rios. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family. His unwavering kindness, infectious laughter, and enduring love will forever be remembered and cherished.

The viewing will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, MA.
