Juan (Johnny) Nieves
(1968 - 2026)

With profound grief we announce the passing of our beloved Juan David Nieves, 57, of Springfield, MA, who left us on February 14, 2026.

Juan, one of Esteban and Ramona Nieves' five children, was born May 17, 1968 in Springfield and raised in the Catholic faith. He worked for many years at The Mass Mutual Insurance Company and, later, as a forklift operator at Buxton Leather.

He loved spending time with family, camping, playing pool, his red jeep, and using his turntable to practice DJ techniques. He had a special passion for club music and dancing, but he would sing "Dame la Mano Paloma" any time of the year.

Because of his friendly and comic demeanor, he made friends easily and was affectionately known as "The Mayor of Manor Court," by members of his community, to whom he would wave, flash a peace sign, and call out "What's up?"

Although we're mourning, the family is overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community and we want to recognize and thank everyone who helped try to bring him home--those who searched and those who prayed, including the law enforcement officers who devoted so much time and effort to finding Johnny.

Johnny leaves behind his distraught parents, Esteban and Ramona Nieves, and siblings (and their spouses) Carmen Nieves (Cruz Rodriguez), Esteban Nieves Jr. (Evelyn), Margarita Cohen (Charles), and Gloria DelViscio (Matthew).

Also bereft are his nieces and nephews, Omar and Omaris Rodriguez, Thomas DelViscio, Jessica and Jasmine Nieves, Johnny's children Melinda (Nieves) Roldan, Juan "J.J." (Nieves) Ramirez, and Melina (Nieves) Ramirez, and Johnny's five grandchildren, as well as many cousins, neighbors, and friends.

There will be a viewing and service on Thursday, February 26, from 9-11am, at Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home (130 Carew Street, Springfield, MA) following which Johnny will be laid to rest at St. Michael The Archangel Chapel Mausoleum (1601 State Street, Springfield, MA).
