Jose Acevedo

–

Springfield, Massachusetts

Jose R. Acevedo, known affectionately to many as "Mon," was a man of deep faith and unparalleled resilience. Born on March 15, 1943, in Puerto Rico, to Eugenio and Matilde Acevedo, Jose was a beacon of compassion and courage. His generous heart and infectious humor brought warmth and joy to everyone around him. His journey ended on November 18, 2023, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

Jose, a devoted Catholic, served as an Eucharistic minister, embodying the scripture verse "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40). He was employed as a diligent custodian at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Springfield, Massachusetts, for over 30 years. Despite losing his left arm in a tragic accident in 1969, Jose's resilient spirit triumphed, courageously embracing life's challenges head-on. His determination and hard work were a testament to his strength of character and his unwavering faith.

Jose's love spilled over from his service to the church into his hobbies as well. He was a passionate gardener, a lover of old cars, and an avid listener of musica jibara. His zest for life was infectious, and his laughter could make even the toughest days brighter. Jose was a beloved figure in his community - a testament to his generosity and his innate ability to make people smile.

Jose was a devoted husband to his late wife, Miguelina Acevedo, for 50 years, and a loving father to his sons, Angel and Orlando Acevedo. He was also a cherished brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Angel and Orlando Acevedo; his sister, Ana Rivera; his granddaughter, Julissa Acevedo; his step-granddaughter, Daphne Correa; his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Acevedo; and his great-granddaughter, Everleigh Rios.
