Gabriel Martinez

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gabriel Martinez, affectionately known as Pookie or Gabe, on December 16, 2023. Born on April 3, 1999, in Springfield, MA, Gabriel grew into an adventurous, loving, and humble man, carrying these qualities through his life as he moved from Springfield to Chicopee, Massachusetts. A loyal son, brother, and father, Gabriel most treasured spending time with his family and friends. His humble heart was always full of joy and love, which he generously shared with those around him.

A dedicated crew member at Wendy's, Gabriel was an industrious and diligent worker. His loyalty extended beyond his personal life, reaching into his professional life as well. Whether at home or at work, Gabriel carried an adventurous spirit, always seeking new experiences and challenges. His love for life was infectious, touching everyone he met. Gabriel was never married, but he found great joy and pride in his two sons, to whom he was a loving and devoted father. His humility and love were a testament to the truth of the quote, "Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less."

Gabriel leaves behind his loving mother, Alisgrisel Velez, and father, Gabriel Martinez; his step-father, Victor Vargas; his siblings, Victor Vargas, Julian Vargas, Adelise Martinez, Christian Martinez, and Giselle Martinez; his sons, Gabriel and Ashton Martinez; his significant other, Ashlee Collins; and his grandparents, Carmen Kowal & Timothy Broadhurst, Rafael Velez & Katherine Burgos, Maria Velasquez, Jose Martinez, and Nelson Molina. He also leaves a rich legacy of love among his two great-grandmothers, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Each of these individuals will carry the memory of Gabriel's loving and adventurous spirit in their hearts.

A service to celebrate Gabriel's life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Puerta Del Cielo Funeral Home, 730 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109. In honor of Gabriel's adventurous spirit, we invite all who knew him to share their memories of him and upload photos to the memorial page. Remembering Gabriel in this way will help keep his adventurous and loving spirit alive in our hearts.
