Eva Fontanez Obituary
1952 – 2025

Eva Fontanez, 73, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at home in Springfield, MA.

Eva is the daughter of Francis Vega, and the late Modesto Fontanez. Eva grew up in Brooklyn, NY and had a love for cosmetology. Eva began cosmetology school in Brooklyn, NY and reflected her love of doing hair/make-up by caring for others.

Eva had a true knack for helping others. She was fiercely honest, quick-witted, and the life of the party. She had a sense of humor that brought smiles to everyone around her. Her big heart and welcoming spirit made people feel instantly at home--like lifelong friends-and she always went out of her way to be the best host.

Eva also loved to listen to music, mainly salsa and Motown/R&B. She also fiercely read the bible and researched any information that was relative to the history of the bible. Although she didn’t consider herself religious, one of her favorite things to do was post scriptures all around her house.

Eva will be remembered as a beloved mother, Great-great grandmother, great grandmother, grandmother, daughter, sister and cherished friend to many.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Frances Vega, her sisters Judy Fontanez, and Ruthie Talavares, brother Elizer Salcedo, her three daughters, Eva Marcial, Rosemary Marcial, and Dashima Washington Ortiz, her two sons, Anthony Marcial, and Peter Marcial, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her deeply.

To honor and celebrate Eva's life, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2:00pm-4:00pm with a service at 2:00pm at the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center, 1476 Roosevelt Avenue in Springfield, MA.
