Known affectionately as "Silva" to many, "Tino" to his beloved, departed wife, Lydia Cruz, and "Tinano" to his sister, Ileana Ortiz, Celestino was born on February 10, 1947, in the vibrant town of Lajas, Puerto Rico. His charismatic presence and indomitable spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. Celestino was a man of exceptional courage and resilience. He left a profound legacy as a retired farm worker, demonstrating the value of hard work, perseverance, and integrity. He spent his life in service of others, be it on the farms of New York or in his home in Springfield, Massachusetts. His hobbies, notably music and helping others, were a testament to his gentle soul and big heart. In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Celestino embodied this philosophy, ensuring everyone felt seen, heard, and loved. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who treasured family above all else. His memory will be cherished by his children: Lydia Aponte, Celestino Jr, William Cruz, and Victor Leon; his grandchildren: Angelita Lazu, Tatiana Rodriguez, and Dante Maldonado; his great-grandchildren: Zadriel Maldonado and Justin Silva; his daughters-in-law: Enith Silva, Dilena Cruz, and Denise Leon; and his son-in-law Ritchie Aponte. Celestino was preceded in death by his parents, Celestino Pardo and Monserrate Ortiz, and his adoring wife, Lydia Cruz.
