Carmen Morales-Garcia

–

Wilbraham, Massachusetts

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Carmen Morales-Garcia, known affectionately as Mana hermana. Born on December 8, 1971, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Carmen lived a life characterized by her generosity, courage, creativity, and intelligence. She left us too soon on September 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and spirit that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

Carmen's journey took her from her birthplace in Santo Domingo to Puerto Rico, and finally to Wilbraham, Massachusetts, where she resided for the last eight years. Despite never having formal employment, Carmen's life was filled with meaningful work and contributions to those around her. She was a woman of unending generosity, always putting others before herself. Her hobbies included cleaning late into the night while listening to Alex Sensencio, a simple pleasure that brought her immense joy. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Carmen embodied this philosophy each and every day.

Carmen was a courageous woman, never shying away from life's challenges. Her bravery was matched only by her creativity and cleverness, qualities that made her a beacon of inspiration to all who knew her. She had an uncanny ability to bring joy and laughter into any situation, often by organizing events or making plans with her loved ones via video calls. She had a way of making everyone feel special and valued, a testament to her generous spirit and loving heart.

She was predeceased by her father, Marcelino Morales. Carmen is survived and deeply missed by her mother, Lidia Garcia, and her beloved niece, Yafriesi Figueroa. The bond between Carmen and her family was profound and transcended traditional roles. She was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and so much more. To quote George Eliot, "Family life is a bit like a runny peach pie — not perfect but who’s complaining?" Carmen certainly wasn't one to complain. She cherished her family and friends, making each moment with them count.

A viewing will be held in Carmen's honor on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at the Puerta Del Cielo® Funeral Home, located at 730 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, 01109. We invite those who knew Carmen to come and pay their respects, to celebrate her life and the indelible mark she left on each of us.

We encourage everyone who knew Carmen to leave memories and upload photos on her memorial page. Let us remember her as the generous, courageous, creative, and smart woman she was. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
